Engine suddenly died
Quote from 65sohc on September 28, 2019, 3:35 pmMy car is a 65 GTO with 406 smallblock Chevy, 600 hp FiTech with Fuel Command Center. The car has run fine for the month I've had it until today when it suddenly died after driving about 15 miles. After repeated failures to start I had it towed to my house. I tried cycling the key several times and then it would start for an instant and then immediately die. I can see fuel in the clear inline filter. The high pressure gauge read 0. I ran a jumper wire from the battery to the command center and ran the pump for about 30 seconds and nothing registered on the gauge. Am I correct in assuming it should be showing 60+ psi if the pump is running even if the engine is not?

Quote from 65sohc on September 28, 2019, 7:04 pmTurned out to be the mechanical fuel pump. When I removed it from the block the internals fell onto the ground. The Delphi pump sure didn't last long. The engine was built two years ago and probably has less than 5000 miles.
