PURCHASED FITECH EFI 400 HP 30003 SYSTEMS INCLUDING COMMAND CENTER – 07-29-2019

ISSUE: ECU NO RESPONSE  -  CANNOT SEND INITIAL INFO. TO ECU

1968 BRONCO - NON STOCK ITEMS:

  • 351 WINDSOR, DURASPARK DISTRIBUTOR, BIG CAP,
  • MSD DIGITAL 6A DIGITAL IGNITION (PRIMARY, NEW), MSD COIL, NEW
  • MSD OFF ROAD IGNITION (BACKUP), JACOBS ULTRA COIL
  • MSD WIRES
  • ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP WITH DASH SWITCH
  • INSTALLED PERTRONIX DISTRIBUTOR MODULE – PER SUGGESTION FROM FITECH

FITECH REPLACED HAND HELD AND CABLE – SENT TO FITECH AFTER NOT BEING ABLE TO SEND INFO. TO ECU WITH ORIGINAL HAND HELD AND CABLE.

  • HAND HELD AND COMMAND CENTER SEEMED TO WORK OK BUT NO START CONDITION CONTINUES

TESTED MSD OFFROAD IGNITION, NO SPARK

  • CALLED MSD, TECH GUY TOLD ME TO RETURN SYSTEM TO MSD, THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FASTER TO BUY NEW SYSTEM.

PURCHASED AND INSTALLED MSD 6A IGNITION SYSTEM AND MSD COIL, STILL NO SPARK

  • CALLED MSD, TECH GUY TOLD ME THE SYSTEM WAS NOT WIRED CORRECTLY FOR THE PERTRONIX MODULE.
  • REWIRED THE 6A AND OFF ROAD SYSTEMS.

ITS ALIVE – 10-08-2019

  • CRANKED ENGINE AND RPM WAS DISPLAYED
  • TURNED ON FUEL PUMP TO PRIME HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM
  • CRANKED ENGINE, TURNED OVER 3 OR 4 SECONDS AND STARTED
  • IT IDLED VERY SMOOTHLY, LET IT RUN FOR SEVERAL MINUTES
  • TRIED TO SHUT IT OFF, IT KEPT RUNNING
  • TURNED OFF THE FUEL PUMP, ENGINE DIED FOR LACK OF FUEL
  • CALLED MSD, A DIODE (INCLUDED IN THE MSD 6 SYSTEM) MUST BE INSTALLED IN THE WIRE RUNNING TO THE ALTERNATOR TO ELIMINATE THE RUN ON CONDITION.

I WILL INSTALL THE DIODE TOMORROW AND GIVE OL BUC A TEST RUN.

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT!

Hi All,

I installed the diode and it solved the run on condition.  Drove Ol Buc (68 Bronco) around the neighborhood and it ran like a champ.  Very smooth idle, quick throttle response and fast starts.  This is why I wanted EFI!

Another issue to solve with electric fuel valves, 3 in this case.

Ol Buc (68 Bronco) has a 12 galloon main fuel tank and two 10 gallon saddle tanks with 3 electric fuel valves.

  • A switch on the dash selects the fuel tank to be used and displays fuel level for the tank in use.  The fuel valves feed into each other, passenger tank, then main tank, then driver tank.
    • If the passenger side tank is selected, fuel is pulled by the engine driven pump from the passenger tank through the main tank valve and driver side tank valve to the engine.
    • If the main tank is selected, fuel is pulled by the engine driven fuel pump and pushed by the electric fuel pump through the driver side fuel valve to the engine.
    • If the driver tank is selected, fuel is pulled by the engine driven fuel pump to the engine.
  • The driver tank valve line feeds into the engine driven fuel pump.  The electric fuel pump (constant on) is connected to the main fuel tank.  The engine driven fuel pump feeds the Command Center 2 fuel reservoir for the high pressure pump to the EFI system.
  • Running the electric fuel pump and the engine driven pump at the same time has never been an issue with the carburetor.  That system worked for more than 10 years.

When the engine started with the new EFI, I checked fuel lines for leaks, walked around Ol Buc to check for leaks from the return line going to the driver saddle tank vent line, then around to the passenger side, fuel was gushing out of the vent for the passenger saddle tank.  The dash switch was set to select the main fuel tank.  I bypassed the fuel valves and restarted the engine, no leaks.

I know most machines don't have 3 fuel tanks but does anyone know why the FiTech EFI system would create enough back pressure to push fuel out of the passenger fuel tank vent?

Remember your system worked fine with only 6-8 psi.  Now it is a 58 psi system.  Big difference.  Not a Fitech issue.  Any EFI would do the same.

MSD 6014 LS2 to Fitech 30012

How do I connect a Fitech efi 30012 1200 hp throttle body to a MSD 6014. Looks like there are only two wires of choice - Blue and Black one....     Does the Blue connect to the Gray Tach out on the MSD 6014???? Is the MSD 6014 considered a CDI Box???

If this is the case - says Black not used - it that true? - Not using a single coil - LS2 and MSD connected to 8 coil packs - one for each cylinder. Your thoughts Thanks
