Need VSS help
Quote from 91jeep on April 1, 2019, 8:02 amI installed the LS Ultimate system recently and finally got it out on the road for a shake down drive. The VSS is not getting a signal. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to test. Seems simple enough, there is a sensor in the output of the tranny that the harness is plugged into. I have the 4L60E transmission selected in the handheld.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Quote from lo54ls on April 1, 2019, 8:24 am91jeep, I would recommend replacing the VSS sensor first. It's an easy replacement. Then you can, at least, rule out a sensor issue.
On a related note, does anyone know if it's possible to "bypass" the VSS control? As a work-around, is there a way to program the ECU to control shift points by throttle position and RPM?
I also have a VSS signal issue, but mine is related to the adaptability of the wiring harness to a first-gen 4L60E. I have a first-gen 4L60E (similar case to 700R4) that has a different VSS connector than the 2nd or 3rd gen transmissions. I searched high and low and cannot find an adapter. I called FiTech a few months ago, when I was installing, and they said that they don't make an adapter and if I cut and splice-in the correct connector into the VSS wires, I would void the warranty.

Quote from Deleted user on April 1, 2019, 10:19 amUnfortunately we have very little information for the Trans controls. I am planning to build a 4L60 this summer and use the new stand alone trans ecu from Fitech. I'm sure I will learn a lot and be able to help others.....

Quote from lo54ls on April 1, 2019, 1:40 pmI spoke with FiTech. Currently, they do not have a way to "bypass" the VSS signal on the LS systems.
As for my connector issue, FiTech advised me to contact Casper Electronics. Casper's website didn't have the appropriate connector listed, so I called them and the sales person said he was certain they have it. However, since it's not a common part, it's not listed on their website. They're sending one to me this week. Fingers crossed it's the correct connector.

Quote from lo54ls on April 8, 2019, 10:34 pmQuick update on the VSS connector adapter: I noticed that the new Go Shift stand alone transmission controller references a VSS adapter harness for pre-1996 4l60e transmissions. I asked FiTech about this adapter and was told that they don’t have yet.
Side note: There is a similar adapter listed on EBay that says it will work on early T56 and 4l60e and adapt the VSS to the late-style connector. These do not fit the late-style connector. I bought one and it doesn’t even come close to fitting. Don’t waste your money.

Quote from 91jeep on April 13, 2019, 8:46 amStill do not have speed signal to controller. This is a 4 wheel drive jeep, and the Atlas transfer case adapter to the 4l60E transmission uses a stock GM speed sensor model VSS239. The wiring hardness from the controller to the VSS plugs directly into the VSS239 sensor.
Checking the ohms on the sensor, it shows resistance, so the windings are good on the reluctor style sensor.
Checking the wiring from the controller to the sensor, I found 2.5VDC from both wires to ground at the sensor plug of the harness. Does anyone know if this is correct? Or can someone check their install and see if you get the same thing. Don't know what it is supposed to be. Does anyone know of a way to input a fake signal into the harness to verify the controller registers the input?
Thanks

Quote from lo54ls on April 13, 2019, 11:41 amHave you checked your initial settings in the handheld? In the Auto Trans screen, do you have field 4, Auto 4LXOe Trans turned to "On" and field 5, 4L6xe or 4L8xe set to "4L6Xe"?

Quote from 91jeep on April 14, 2019, 9:24 amI just went and checked, and field 5 is set the way you indicated. 4L6xe.
But field 4 only has 2 options. "Other" and "4LX0e". Mine was set to other, so i changed it to 4LX0e. I have not had a chance to see if this change makes any difference.
What is the difference between "Other" and "4LX0e"?
Thanks for the help.

Quote from 91jeep on April 15, 2019, 7:55 amThanks for the help. Changing the field 4 from "Other" to "4LXOe" got the VSS online and registering. I was able to get the machine out and actually drive it for 5 miles or so. Now it is time to work the kinks out of a full off custom. See pic.
