converting MSD ready to run to 2 wire

vehicle is a 58 Nomad 409, MSD 8393 Ready to Run dizzy, took this dist apart and removed circuit board,vac advance, locked mechanical advance, installed MSD #84661 mag pickup (btw identical to pick up already in dist other than for no 2 wire plug), installed MSD digital 6AL, blaster coil, wiring to Fitech Tripower  according to instruction (that is another subject) .

Both Fitech and MSD say this modified dizzy will not work, when I ask why neither person could give me a reasonable explanation, just wondering if anyone knows why both companies say this is a no go?

I just looked up the part numbers you provided; I  see no reason it won't work as the mag pick-up you bought/installed is used for all their 2-wire dizzys.  Just be sure to hook it up based on the FiTech instructions EXACTLY.  If you plan to use the vacuum advance, there is a thread on this site about that.

Were you using this dizzy in the non-locked mode with the FiTech and now want to use the ECU timing control?  Have you tried this setup and it's not working...or are you looking for advice prior to the install?

I'm still in the middle of installing the Fitech Tripower and agree there is no reason why converting the dizzy to two wire won't work, to be clear the dist vacuum advance has been removed, mechanical advance is locked, adjustable rotor installed.I'm just puzzled why both Fitech and MSD say this won't work

Could be they're just going by the fact it would not have worked with the three wires; might have a list of products known to work and that model isn't on the list so they're playing it safe.  Good luck with both the tri-power and the dizzy.  Please report back either way so others looking for a solution will have the info.

@sonoraed did you have any luck with this distributor conversion? Debating doing the same with mine instead of getting a whole new distributor.

Hi, worked just fine, took apart the dist removed electronics installed 2 wire module (same as old one but had the right connector)

locked advance with rotor , be sure to loctite screw ask me how I know! then perform all the timing procedure, dist cap with hole in it etc, no problems

@sonoraed

Do you think it's necessary to remove the ready to run board or possible to just replace the module with the 84661 mag pickup?

Never thought about doing it that way, but I quess as long as nothing remaining gets in the way sure why not.

This vehicle has been a bit a problem, 58 nomad,348W with Fitech Tripower,700R4,converted MSD locked dizzy,MSD Digital 6AL,Walbro intank pump (oem 01 chev pu ) oem style returnless fuel filter with internal 58 lbs psi regulator.

Runs very well when cold/during warm up and up to 190F, then will start to miss/backfire thru TBI units and overheat, fuel pressure is always 50-60 lbs, appears to me I have either a bad dist pickup/6AL/or Fitech timing control.

Thinking of buying another ready to run dizzy and going with vacuum advance and no 6AL, comments and opinions please!

my dual power adder did kinda the same thing till it just stopped running all together i bought a o2s Front Oxygen Sensor 0258007351 For Audi TT 02-06 VW Jetta 99-04 Golf 99-06 it has about 4 feet of cable unlike the fitech one supplied and mine has ran perfect after i put it in last summer but yes mine would run fine cold and when things got warn ran like utter dog poop and it died on the side of the road i let it cool down and it made it the last mile home i would bet its your 02s its about 22 bucks on ebay thats where i picked mine up at
