Dual Quad setup

Hello, i am preparing to purchase and install the Fitech Dual Quad 1200 kit on my 8-71 blown 468 BBC. My question is, what do i need to prepare for as far as fuel system and initial timing configurations before initial fire up.

I currently have a sumped fuel tank with an inline Aeromotive 1000 inline pump and return line.

I run an MSD Digital box with a locked out distributor.

The motor is a 468 bbc, solid roller cam, Jessel rockers, and AFR heads.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

You have a really good start.  Most people are starting with new builds.  Make sure your fuel system will maintain 58psi.  I haven't used the dual throttle body system yet.  Not exactly sure the regulator and fuel input configuration. On the single units there are three ports and one regulator port for return.  Some are using 1 or 2 ports for inlet and using the internal regulator and return port.  Others are blocking off the regulator and using an external regulator.

You ignition system will be fine.  I assume you are getting advance from MSD box.  This will work or you can use the Fitech to set advance curve.  It will probably not be adequate enough for your tuning.  You need to decide.

Other than ignition and fuel, the only other major obstacle is wiring.  Not a lot but critical.  Fitechs are a little finicky about the grounds and the 12v source.  The units are chassis grounded, engine must be grounded directly and sometimes it's necessary to ground the unit from carb stud to battery.

Initial setup is pretty self explanatory. Instructions in box.  Once you get it to start and keep an idle, let it get to temp.  Make sure temp on handheld is the same or near your temp gauge.  If all good, set your base timing and adjust your idle to get the desired IAC steps. 5-10 on most engines.  Yours may like 10-20.

From there it is very much like tuning a carb.  Now you have all the data at your fingertips and can make adjustments on the fly.  The system is constantly learning and is usually a good idea to drive for 30 to an hour before dialing everything in.  Let Fitech do most of the work.

Your AFR will not be perfectly calibrated.  Tune to the plugs and then find the AFR number that corresponds. Dyno tuning can speed this process up.  Fortunately for you full throttle tune will be the most important.  You won't be tuning for MPG, so part and light throttle won't be as important.

You should produce the same or a little more power with the fuel injection.  The biggest gain will be tuning without getting dirty.

There are guys on here and on the Facebook group that have been successful with blowers.  Personally mine are all daily drivers that are naturally aspirated. Josh Williams is one that comes to mind.  He has helped me many times and got me going on E85.

Sounds good, this week i will hopefully start the tear down. I have read some about fuel pump relays and different ways to hook up the fuel lines/regulators so when i get to that point i will for sure be asking some questions.

I plan to document the entire process step by step here on the forum. Thank you.

👍👍👍 This forum is very young.  Started it about a month ago.  So all info is greatly appreciated.  Good luck.

I have set up a blow through system with the A1000.  We ran -8 lines to the Aeromotive regulator then -6 to the Fitech.  Ran just a touch lean on top so ran second input line to Fitech and cleaned that up.  So the A1000 had no problem supplying fuel.  The return from the regulator is also -8.

I could see you running the same thing.  Would just be one -6 to each throttle body from the regulator.  Your system should be easier on the fuel system than a blow through.

My preferred ignition system for blower motors is at least an MSD 6530.  There are more options on timing curves with the MSD than with the Fitech.

hello I am using fuel injection for the first time my motor is a 545  aluminum heads and a don Hampton 871 blower I purchased the 2x4 power adder with the g2 fuel system  any tips on install or pre start tuning tips

Grounds, grounds, grounds.  Probably the number 1 problem with install along with proper wiring.  Next will be insuring there are no vacuum or exhaust leaks.  Must have 18in. or more of exhaust past the o2 sensor for it to read correctly.  I assume you have a fuel pressure gauge.  Fitech does not monitor fuel pressure unfortunately.  From here, it is nearly like tuning any boosted engine.  Low boost and minimum advance at first.  Gradually bring them up as you get comfortable with the build and tuning.

Hi, could you use a external rising rate fuel pressure regulator, to help the efi with the fuel enrichment when under boost? I have found that it was an easy way to run high boost, and get enough fuel, on previous factory efi systems.

Thanks.

The power adder systems can adjust to boost.  If you are boosting above the capability of the system, it is unknown how raising the fuel pressure will perform.
