Fuel delivery issue?

Page 1 of 2Next

Fuel System got plugged with foam particles got past 100 micron and 30 micron filter had to clean injectors and replace regulator. New regulator is from 2003 vw beetle 1.8l turbo (48psi regulator). After cleaning fuel system still having low fuel readings around 40 fuel pump also makes funky sounds not a steady buzzing (in line pump). Also seems like everything runs decent afr look good until after about 10 min of driving it goes nuts afrs go up to 18-20 and barely stays running in gear, put it in neutral and idle gets better but afrs are still high touch the gas pedal almost dies if I peddle it past 3500 rpm and keep it revving past that its fine. Looks like fuel flow rate on hand held drops when the afrs start going up but fuel psi doesn't and vacuum on hand held starts out low around 7-9 and stays around 15 after it runs bad. Anyone have any ideas what's going on?

Sounds to me like you still have a restriction in your fuel system.  Maybe missed some of the pieces.  It doesn't take much.

But if I let the truck cool down for a little bit and drive it again its all good until after 5-10 min of driving again then its goes back to running like crap afrs go back up and then barely stays running again

Did you replace the pump?  May have a weak pump from the foam.  Starts to warm up and losses performance.

Thats next on the list ordered new filters and pump should have it by mid week

Keep us updated.

Do you have a 400 unit? Just wondering because of 48 psi regulator.  The 600 units are 58 psi.

No the 600 and fitech told me to get that regulator not sure why

Is your old regulator shot, or can it be cleaned up.  If so, I would try putting it back in.  Could be that new regulator.

I took the filter off of it and the new one swapped those put it back in and it held it 58 but shortly after that is when it started giving me these bigger problems so put the other regulator back in but still have the same issue so may not be related to regulator but I'm going to put the 58 PSI regulator back in
