hard to start cold

Hi I have a 1200PA on my 545bbf and when cold it always cranks for a while before it fires starts well after that its just that first start

I have the fuel prime off at the moment as I found this made the hot start hard to start, seems to lack fuel cold first start

can prime the fuel pump as much as you want makes no difference will have to play with the crank and after start settings again to see if I can get it to improve

can give it a bit of throttle and you can hear it wants to go but still not quiet enough fuel

must admit when its hot and it has been sitting for a while starts instantly if some throttle is applied also but not as much as an issue

if it is shut down and restarted within 5-10 minutes it will restart straight away just off the key hot

did have the prime shot on a while ago and cold starts were better but then hot starts were a problem see just cant find a happy medium

if any one can give me some tips on what they have found

Thanks

Perhaps fuel is draining back into the tank from the fuel line.  I had a similar issue - installed a check valve near-the-tank.  That helped the issue quite a bit.

I was thinking that too I have got a pressure gauge on the vehicle and it does loose pressure over time

I did notice one of the injectors was weeping so Fitech sent me a couple of new injectors and also a fuel reg and it did help the fuel pressure hold for longer but it has lost fuel pressure by morning, will have to do more checks to see where the pressure loss is going maybe the Aeromotive 340 in tank pump check valve is weeping but its new too? can prime the pump for as long as you want before you start and doesn't make any difference

will have to keep testing till I find the cause

In my experience tuning for cold start is slow process.  Work on your crank and afterstart settings for engine temp range during issues.  My c10 gets very hot under the hood.  I have enabled the prime sometimes just to get it started when very hot.

can you set the Prime shot at different temp settings as I thought it was either on or off? if you can do this I think it would be very helpful

Prime shot does not have temp range, but is adjustable on amount. -100 is off and increasing from there adds prime fuel.

did play with the prime shot and I just set it to 100 to see how it goes again found started and run straight away so I am back in the right direction again, I had it turned off as I did have problems on a hot start from memory a while ago but I will leave it there for a while and see how it goes with the hot starts go but I have got a large manifold so it genuinely needs all the fuel it can get as its a 545 BBF with the A460 trickflow heads and manifold
