Motor running rich on idle, idling up/down and finally dies with black smoke.
Hi, I'm helping a friend to start up his V8 Hotrod where he just installed his Go EFI 4 600 HP.
The engine started on the first try but died after a few seconds, when using some throttle we got it running and then by slowly slowly releasing the throttle it could stand on the idling speed. Target idling speed is set to 800 rpm, and it jumps between 700 and 900.
Then when the motor gets warm, the idling starts to change much more, down to 400-500 rpm then up again, then down/up until it gets black smoke and it dies. I noticed that when the rpm drops the timing first jumps from 13 to 25 degrees, then the engine slows down, then timing back to 13 degrees and the rpm recovers.
Any idea what might be wrong?
I made a Idle Control Log, hopefully it can show something?
The distributor is a HEI that he opened and locked both the vacuum and mechanical timing adjustments so it's fixed.
