MSD Ready to Run

For those that have an MSD Ready to Run distributor - the instructions in the manual for Ready to Run distributors does not apply to you! At least if you have a newer one that has a grey tach wire.

I started posting on the blue wire shielding thread with my struggles with the RPM Noise code, but when I found this out from their Tech group today, I thought I would share and hopefully save others from this problem.

If you set up per the manual and then had problems, you will have to clear everything and reload the V8 file and start over.

My struggle continues though. I did all this, started and let run to warm up. As soon as it reached temperature to turn on the fans, it died and will not restart! This time no codes. so I don't know where to look next?

I have the same issue starts runs good the go for a drive claps backfires stops rpm says 58765 turn it off starts does the same been troubleshooting for over a week with no joy very piis off

A common issue with Ford's is the factory could mount location.  It is worth close to the distributor wires for the Fitech.  Move the coil....

Ray 230,  So what changes do we need to make when using the MSD Ready to Run distributor?  Right now I have my Fitech blue wire hooked to the coil negative terminal per the instructions.  I am getting the tach signal noise code.  Should I hook the blue wire to the gray MSD tach wire instead?

Yes. Then I shielded it also. Make sure you clear everything and start your setup over again as I mentioned above also.

Great Thanks!  Have you had a problem with the FiTech dumping fuel at key on?  Because the MSD sweeps the tach to show the preset rev limit with key on.

No I have not had any issue with that. I did have an injector stick open once, and had to replace though. Are you having an issue?

I actually haven't used the gray tach wire yet.  I thought I remembered reading about the key on flooding somewhere.  Unfortunately I fragged my transmission so I can't drive the car to see how the gray tach wire will work.  I will make the switch and shield the wire as well.
