My bog stumble at acceleration fix.......

Hello all,

I'd had a bog/stumble issue that I spent much time trying to tune out but basically learned how to drive around it:  rolling into the throttle in first (350 turbo manually shifting) just to get the car moving, THEN hammering it.

Anyway, getting back to my "fix".

First off, my kickdown cable has always been spot on and very responsive and it's a stout "street/strip" 350 turbo from a local shop with an 1800-2300 B&M converter.

But to get any real acceleration, I had to manually shift.  I don't know if any of you have modified or adjusted the governor in your 350 turbo, 400 turbo, etc.?  I'll cut straight to the chase here......THAT is what corrected my stumble.  Pre-adjustment?  It would shift at 3500 rpm if left in Drive and "coming out of the hole"?  Felt almost like I was in second because, I'm no auto trans expert here, but the governor "saw" a potential of 3500+ RPM immediately (with my gearing and tire size) so it didn't allow First, much less first for any period of time?  The shop that built the trans left the governor adjustment up to the buyer because there are SO MANY variables.   Not a "use these weights and you'll get "this" shift RPM".

It now shifts at 6000 RPM and falls right into the torque peak range of my engine at shifts and I NEVER take it out of Drive anymore.

Now, from a dead stop, it'll leave HARD in First and rev strong to that 6000 rpm's.  MINUS the stumble.  And now ANY time I nail the throttle from a roll, where it used to possibly stumble (undoubtedly due to the trans NOT downshifting and loading the engine hard), it'll gladly downshift, revs come up immediately and you're either spinning the tires or covering ground QUICK.

But it really was an eye opener the first time I drove the car with the new shift RPM and the massive improvement in trans response to pedal input.

Will it fix your stumble?   I have NO idea.  But I had to pass along my experience what with the SEA of stumble issues posted, discussed and I had read about.  The governor is pretty easy to modify and the change in how your vehicle drives ALL the time is mind boggling.

Hope I've conveyed what I was trying to.   Sorry so long.
