No spark Ultimate LS 70004

Page 1 of 3Next

Hello,

I would appreciate any input on my no spark issue.

Purchased and installed 70004.

- fuel pump cycles at key to run then shuts off
- fuel pump runs at engine crank
- crank speed shows 68-71 rpm on hand held display
- power at coil pinks during crank and run
- 4l80e with VSS and round connector connected to trans
- 2/0 power and ground cables (ecu powers connected starter main heavy power cable and grounds installed on driver side cylinder head, yes connections are tight and clean)
- fuel pressure 55psi
- current gear always reads 1 and shifter always reads low2 (these do not change while trans is shifted through complete range, does it need to see P or N to allow ignition?)
- unplugging cam sensor - changes nothing
- disconnected trans harness - changes nothing
- 24 tooth reluctor on crank ( tried 58 just because, no change)
- mass storage software will download to pc and start but will not connect to ecu. It then freezes and displays connection lost - reconnnecting
Is there a more current version of software?
Is there a more comprehensive manual for the ecu functions?
Is there a wiring diagram or layout for the fuse/relay panel?
Are there only the VSS and circular connectors to hook up on 4l80e? ( do you ignore the factory external transmission switch on sector shaft?)

If I understand correctly, you have ecu power hooked to starter.  Ecu power must be hooked to battery or direct battery circuit.  Too much voltage drop at starter.

I will swap it right now.

No sir. Dead to the world still.

I have moved both cables directly to the power stud. Its an 18" trip from the battery to the stud with a 2/0 cable.

As a side note, all wires are oversize, soldered and heat shrunk.

Fully charged optima battery.

As a heavy equipment mechanic you learn the bad cable/voltage lesson quickly.

I would be thankful and eager to entertain any other ideas.

Damn!!!! Was hoping that was it.

I haven't got my hands on an LS unit yet.  Sometimes a challenge to help others.  Let me see what I can come up with.

Make sure your12v switched wire does not havevoltage drop during crank.  "White Wire" on the throttle body units....

Also reading that the ignition harness can be installed backwards, causing th8s issue.

Thanks Austin,

I have read about the coil harness orientation problem and have inverted the harnesses just to try it - the pink is still rock solid battery voltage but no spark. None of the coils will  spark a plug or pulse a timing light.

I will verify the white wire condition tonight.

I have also read a few instances of software/ecu failure. Really hoping this is not the case. All this information was sent to Fitech by email and I did try to follow it up with a phone call the next day.......still no answer and the phones stated they were closed yesterday.

Benefit of the doubt, I hope they knocked off early for Thanksgiving. Fingers crossed for a Monday reply from them.

Still love to get this sorted before then.

This time of year is a pain for tech support with the Holidays, SEMA and PRI.  Anybody from the Fitech Ultimate LS Users (Facebook group) offered any help?  They can be a good resource.

I hope you can be patient.  The guys that have installed them are very happy.  I have been told they are even easier to tune and more consistent than the throttle body units.  Can't wait to get my hands on one.

Verified the 12v switched (red wire for 70004) has no drop at key on or cranking.

Ill go sniff about on the FB

Will update when I find something.
