Overwhelmed

Just bought a used 1980 jeep cj7 with a beautiful fitech.  But have no idea what to do. It's running smooth, idels a bit high but cranks even when 20 degrees.

However I'm getting real crappy gas milage. Like 7 mpg. Are my settings off? I want to drive a lot in summer but I'm sick of running out of gas.

Thanks for any help to this new be.

Ok, have you used your handheld monitor yet of your fitech?  You can change your AFR settings a tiny bit at a time and keep an eye on your spark plug color with each update, but first, make sure you have a good seal around your O2 sensor and have no leaks.  That will throw off your AFR settings.  By default they always make those AFR settings rich, so you can increase the numbers a little.  The secret is to do any change a little at a time to home in what's best for your engine.

Hi there.  I have played with the handheld a bit.  Was just trying to figure out which setting is which to make that gas milage go up.

I drove it around at the off road park for 3 hours and it was drained.  Maybe that's normal, i'm not sure as that was my first time out with it.

Thanks all.

I would first check your plugs to see what color they are.  If they are black, then that would explain your poor fuel economy.  Then you can go to tuning and AFR targets.  In there you will see CRUISE, which is your main loss of fuel and increase that number slightly to lean it out.  If your plugs look real black, you can also up the number for the idle.  So if you have Idle AFR Target at 13.60, you can try 13.80 and 3000 45kPa of 14.40 you can go to like 14.60, etc.
