P0130 and AFR stuck at 14.7

Page 1 of 2Next

Hi, my 600 system is currently setting a P0130 and my AFR is stuck 14.7, and obviously it's running extremely rich as it tries to get back to target AFR. Have about 5000 miles on it, so I'm not too keen on just throwing a new O2 sensor at it. Is there a common issue or a pin out ohm test I can perform on the o2 sensor?  Anything else I should be looking for, any other tests to perform?  Thanks for your time and help!

That's funny.  Not actually funny, but I was seeing the same thing myself today for a while.  I had been playing with the FiTech ProCal software and must have made a change the ECU took, but didn't like and the AFR was stuck at 14.7.   I then loaded a CAL file I had saved prior to making the changes and when it started up, the AFR was no longer stuck.   If you don't have a saved, known to be good CAL file, just load the default one from FiTech and remember to walk through all the initial set up again if you do.  Also, I would be sure to back up the current ECU CAL because even though it might be corrupted, you can probably still view it in the off-line mode on the handheld and see what your settings were.  Hope all that makes sense.  Good Luck!!!

Thank you. Just gave that a try and no change. Still at 14.7 and code set a immediately. All wires look good, is the O2 going out on these a common issue? I think it's probably still under warranty, guess I'll try giving them a call unless someone has something else for me to try first.

Sorry, if loading the default CAL didn't fix it (ruling out a software issue) and you have already checked the wires, then maybe a bad sensor.  Have you checked to make sure there are no leaks around it...and there needs to be at least 18 inches (might be more) or exhaust pipe after the sensor.  If it's in the collector, open headers will not work.  There's a list of part numbers somewhere else on this site....good luck!

Actually, back to the software possibility, have you tried reloading the software to the ECU?  from the handheld?  I believe there are instructions for that also on this site...might be worth a try.

No worries, and thanks for help.  Its been on the truck and running great for around 5,000 miles, so something has just gone wrong somewhere.  I'm going to try to call FiTech today and see if they have any ideas, but I'm leaning toward a bad O2 sensor.  Hopefully (maybe) I can get one warrantied, although if it is the sensor, I don't think I want to put the same brand back in.

The O2 sensors provided are from Bosch.  Good quality sensors.  Lately I have seen a few issues like you are encountering.  I am not sure what is going on, but O2 sensors have not been an issue ever with Fitech.  Look forward to see what they say.

I spoke with Bryce the other day, about the same issue.  Software bug or wiring issue is where we agree.

Ok, thanks Austin.  One of my guys that works for me is doing some custom EFI on his Harley and happens to have a couple of the same O2 sensors as our FiTechs use.  We're going to take one over to my place and plug it in to the harness and see if it starts reading "correctly".  I'm actually hoping it's the O2 sensor so I can at least have some answers.  I've been fighting this thing since Mother's Day weekend.  It finally just set a code last week, but has been running like garbage and been undriveable for months.  I'd be pulling my hair out but I don't have any.

Something has the system locked into open loop.  Your Target AFR is stuck at 14.7, not the actual AFR.  Correct?

No, my actual AFR is stuck at 14.7.  Target AFR moves as it runs.  I assume it's pouring fuel to it to try to get the AFR down from the 14.7 it's stuck at to the target AFR I have at 13.6 at idle, and 14.2 at the different running rpms.  Truck fires right up and idles for about 10 seconds then you can see fuel coming out the tailpipes.  AFR never moves off 14.7.

I just worked through the same O2 sensor issue.

Suggestion: Get the latest firmware and re-flash your ECU. My hunch is that if there is an error parsing one of the .inf files on the ECU, it goes into a "failsafe mode" and ignores input from all non-critical sensors.
