Starts but will not run

Hey Guys and Gals,

I need some help. I installed a 3008 into my 55 Belair that has a 496 with a 6 speed. I'm running an external fuel pump with 8AN up to the 3008 and then 6AN to a regulator and a return. I also have filters installed. My battery is located in my trunk and I have the a direct power line to it.

I have completed all my initial settings and tuning but I have my cranking, afterstart, and warmup for cold and mid temp maxed out (95) and my car will start and just run for a minute. Sometimes it will run a little longer but it acts like its not getting fuel. I check my fuel regulator and it's at 75 psi. I was thinking I was giving it too much fuel so I reduced the number and the car will not start. I need to mention that most of the time I need to prime it about three times before it will fire. Also hitting the gas doesn't increase the rpms on the engine and the engine seems to struggle to get to speed. It did run once but was idling low and was reading lean 20 for my afr.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,

Patrick

to Fitech
Hi Patrick
First off you should not be running more than 58 psi.  Something else is wrong if 75 psi is needed.  Next the way I understand it you are running fuel pump direct to the Fitech then to an external regulator.  Have you removed the internal regulator on the Fitech?  If not you are running two regulators on the return side.  Not sure what that will do.  My preference would be to not use the external regulator and let the regulator built into the Fitech handle the job.  I would also prefer that the -6 is the feed line and -8 is the return line.  On my supercharged 455 Buick I run a 455 lph Walbro pump -8 to the Fitech -10 return line.  I have replaced the internal regulator with what I am sure was a genuine Bosch regulator.  They say this is too much pump for the regulator but works for me.
An immediate check you can do is look into the Fitech when someone turns on the key.  All four barrels should show a very healthy squirt of fuel.  It does sound like you are not getting enough fuel.  Hope this helps a little.  I am replying directly because the website is not working that great for me..Good luck.
