stumbling and die

Page 1 of 6Next

hello all looking for some help

installed a go street 400 on a new all stock 350ci sbc. did the first start and all that, everything was going good. went to go for a drive and after about 30 miles everything went south. Truck just starts stumbling and dieing and does not want to accelerate from a stop. When i hook the handheld up to my computer to look at the data log it does not have the log files folder. i am at a loss on what is going on and about at the end of my rope with this.  Almost sure its a tuning issue but without seeing what is going on when it happens i am not sure what needs changes. any help will be great thanks.

2 issues

Datalog: Hook handheld to PC.  Select USB.  Open temp drive on handheld.  Select Log File.  Delete dashboard folder.  This folder will generate when you record another datalog.  If you do not have a Log File, you may have corrupted software.  Go to Members Section and find instructions on how request the latest Software for your system.

It is important that when you end a Datalog, you must turn engine off, let ecu power down, then unhook handheld.

Running issue: This is most likely a classic example of electrical interference.  Very likely through the Blue wire, tach wire.  Here are a few guidelines.

1. Shield the blue wire if not using timing control.  Ground the blue wire if using timing control.  Here is a link for shielding.  https://fitechefituning.com/fitech-efi-tuning-forum-2/topic/shielding-the-blue-tach-wire

2. Run a 2 gauge ground from battery to block.  10 gauge grounds from battery to frame and from battery to body.

3. Run spiral core plug wires and resistor spark plugs.  In other words no race wires or plugs.

4. Keep all Fitech wires away from coil and ignition related components.  Plug wires, distributor, etc.

Austin thanks for the reply

I an thinking that my software might be corrupted. when i hook the handheld up to PC, open USB storage mode. the screen on the handheld turns black and says USB storage mode in yellow. No other options that i can open.

When I open the drive D. I get the folders cal_file, cal_info, hex_file, map_file, monitor_info, sys_bin, and Trouble_code_map. i do not see anything else.

On the list of things that you posted the only one that I have not done already is shielding the blue wire. I am going to be looking in to that today.

Again thanks for the info.

Yes, you are missing log_file between hex_file and map_file.  I think I would try on your computer creating the log_file directory on the d drive and trying it again.  May be worth a shot.  Otherwise I agree that the software may be corrupted.

The handheld does go black like that when linked to the PC, but no Log File.  Request some software.

There is a quick way to shield the blue wire.  Plan to make a video on this.  Take some primary wire of similar gauge and use a drill to twist the 2 wires together.  Ground the added wire on one or both ends, doesn't matter.

so i got the software to update everything seemed to go fine but now everything on the handheld is upside down. did i do something wrong?

Ok got the software issue fixed. replaced the blue wire with a shielded wire and have it grounded at both ends. Replaced the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. went to do the setup on the handheld and I am not finding where I can choose TACH or 2 WIRE. in any of the menus. I have looked in every setting and tab and can not find it. when i did the original setup after the install it had this option, does the system not allow this to be changed once a setting had been sent to the ECU? I am asking due to got the truck up and running at temp and when I go to rev it up it is very slow and stutters. before the new software it was very responsive and revd fast.

Any input on this one?

There should be a menu for ignition setup.  Or that option is usually in the Initial setup menu.  I do not have a handheld near me.  Need to start carrying one around.

Are you using timing control?  If you are, the shuddering would make sense.  The ecu is not commanding the spark to advance, because the feature is not on.

i am not using timing control that i know of. running a HEI.

Yep, you are correct.  Your unit doesn't have timing control.  Fuel only on the 400 unit.
