timing control small block chev efi600 with msd 6la box HEI distributor

Originally ran without timing control. I changed system to timing control and engine barely runs wont accelerate. Followed instructions, locked out mechanical advance, initial crank timing 10 degrees, aligned rotor with #1 plug, configured wiring as per figure 12 in instruction manual. set base timing on controller to 10 degrees. The confusion lies between the msd violet /green wire from msd to distributor , black wire not used and the fitech wiring violet/green wire to throttle body, use black wire to white wire on msd. The msd info states the white wire is for breaker points, electronic amplifier. Is there a site that I can view to get this wiring resolved.

Hi John, the FiTech timing control only works with a specific type of 2-wire distributors, and I believe the GM HEI is not one.  I believe some folks have modified their HEIs to work, but I don't believe a stock HEI will work.  Might want to google FiTech Timing Control and HEI. Good luck!

It works with out timing control so I thought it would.

Do you have your wiring diagrams that came with the Fitech.  There is a diagram specifically for this setup.

2 wire plug on distributor hooks to the 2 wire plug on Fitech.  This is the reference signal for Fitech timing control.

Fitech black wire should be connected to MSD white wire.  This triggers the MSD to fire when commanded by the Fitech.

Make sure ignition is set to 2 wire.

If having issues related to ignition timing, make sure your actual timing is in sync with the Fitech timing.
