Transmission Temp reading

My handheld reads the Transmission Temp as -40 after a 25 mile drive. Torque converter is not locking up according to the handheld and the car shutters when I give it gas.
Would this wrong temp reading cause these or any other
issues?

I'm having the same temp reading issue, -40 all the time. I checked the voltage coming from the temp sensor pin on the trans connector and it's reading 5v
