Ultra Ram System

Hi all.  New here and trying to install one of the Ultra Ram Systems on my 83 Camaro 427 small block.  It's not going well and I have quickly realized that the Fitech support is in over their heads with response times.  I'm trying to gauge the level of information you all have regarding this system.  My current issue has to do with trying to get an RPM signal. I had a signal when I had it set up to control my timing, but no spark.  I reverted back to mechanical timing and believe I have the wiring and settings correct, but now I have no RPM signal at all.  I am new to everything fuel injection and did the install myself, so mistakes are a possibility, lol.  I have been unable to get the engine to run at all so far.  Been trying different things for over a week.  I am struggling to know what things to try or what some of the most common causes of this may be.  I run an MSD digital 6AL, MSD Blaster SS coil and an MSD Pro Billet distributor along with an Autometer 5" tach with shift light.  I can create spark from the coil wire when jumping across the MSD 2-wire harness so I tend to believe those things are good.  Any help is truly appreciated before my wife leaves me for spending all my free time with the car.  Thanks!

I have not played with an Ultra Ram, but confident it is same as throttle body systems in regards to timing control.

For timing control, the 2 wire harness is plugged into the distributor, ignition selection is "2 wire" and black wire is run to your ignition box or coil.  In your case the 6al.

No timing control, the Blue wire is used to receive a tach signal from your coil.  Ignition selection will be "Tach".

A good way to isolate the problem is watching handheld for RPM reading when cranking.

Thanks!  I have been seeing alot of discussion about the blue wire.  In my case, they say the blue wire is for accessories such as air conditioning and is optional.  For no timing control, Fitech specifies that I attach the brown wire to tach output on the MSD Box.  Aside from that, I was able to get the engine to start yesterday, although it ran very rough and would stall out after 5-10 seconds.  I was trying to check my initial timing but that was fairly difficult due to the erratic idle.  If I had to estimate I would say I'm at about 10* btdc give or take.  Got a little excited when it actually started and tried to run.  I feel like I'm close.  Just not sure what's next to try.

What fixed it, I have the same setup/issues, MSD 6AL box-Pro billet 2 wire dist. 427  Engine, fires but pops backfires runs like it's on 4 cylinders, new install

Any help ideas?

I have a big chevy and installed the ultra ram. I had a handfull of problems finding information to specify what wires go where when double checking my work. I could get mine to fire with mechanical timing (brown wire signal) but not using timing control (2 wire plus yellow signal to msd points output). My ecm ended up being faulty. I had to send it back to fitech for bench testing. I just got it back and it is working nicely.

One of my problems when searching forums was this - lots of people talking about the throttle body units and come to find out the wire colors for the two systems are different. So when you find info about the ultra ram vs the throttle body dont make comparisons to what others have.
