Weak Fire Up after Timing Control
Quote from gearbanger on October 24, 2020, 9:39 amHey guys, first post here. I have had the fitech 1200hp throttle body system going for a couple of years now. Engine is 461 Pontiac in a 67 GTO. So far it has been run without the timing control with the HEI deistributor and MSD 6al that is has had for years. Car ran perfectly and started great with a small tweak to the initial pump shot at cold start.
A few weeks ago, I decided to get the timing control going and after sorting out some rpm noise and the old 59000 RPM issue due to no ground wire from the throttle body, I got it running perfectly and just returned from a 6 hour round trip with absolutely no issues.
The only issue I am having is that when I fire it up, cold or hot, it doesnt fire up really strong like it used to. It kind of hits and dies or almost dies and then starts up. After that all is perfect. What would have changed from no timing control to timing control that would make it struggle to fire up?
Before I had initial timing set at 10 and had a vac advance that gave me an extra 10 deg of advance. Now I have my distributor set at 10 BTDC and the idle timing is at 20 BTDC. This is the same as before right?
Thanks in advance.
