Where do I start...

My buddy dropped off his car for me to work on, several issues.

I'm actually having issues with the brakes, but it got me investigating vacuum, and oil leaks.

The car (71 Landcruiser has been restored so I have a mess of different parts) We have no contact with the guy who did the work so  I have no clue what he has inside

The carb (Go Street 400HP) is mounted on an old Pontiac 40o motor.

It is running extremely rich at idle, and emits a horrible hissing sound.

Now here is the hard part, I have no handheld controller, and the wires that connect to it are melted anyway.

Is there anything I can adjust without the computer, and could the melted wires be an issue, should I cut them off?

I know, not much to go one...Any help is appreciated...

(Also of note, the battery frequently dies, will that effect the tuning of the carb)

sounds like you need a controller and if you cant get a replacement controller cable you will be needing to replace the throttle body if it is not serviceable, I would make sure the wires are not shorting together, if your battery is constantly going dead it is usually 1 of 2 issues a bad cell in the battery and it needs replaced, or a parasitic draw, get a known good battery in it and perform a draw test to find out what circuit has the draw and then test the components in that circuit to find  the culprit you should have a constant 1 to 3 amp draw depending on if there is any "keep alive" items  ie clock, radio mem. alarm. and as far as I know you cant make any adjustments to the fuel injection without a controller except idle.

good luck

I did replace the battery, I was just wondering if the computer that controls the the carb would lose any settings...

not sure I have the dual power adder 1200 hp sys ill un hook my battery tomarrow and see

The wires being melted is a huge problem.  There is 12v running in that harness. Get that fixed immediately.

Call Fitech and tell them what you need.  Harness is replaceable and you can buy a handheld.

to answer your other question I un hooked my batteries and pulled all the fitech fuses reinstalled everything and all my settings was still where I set them.
