won't start on it's own

Recently upgraded my 67 Ford Ranchero with a BluePrint Engines 5.0 HO and FiTech 30003 EFI with a 40005 external fuel pump kit. I'm about 150 miles into the engine 500 mile break-in, so I"m not getting on it very hard (yet).  It seems to idle and run down the highway ok.  My issue, the car will not start on it's own.  I must feather the throttle (gas pedal) a little to start it.  This happens at all temperature ranges from cold to operating temp.  And when it does try to start on it's own it acts like it's only running on 4 cylinders.  I read on the Holly EFI site that their EFI does not like dual plane intake manifolds, which I have on the truck/car now.  Holly recommends a single plane manifold..

I've worked with the FiTech "help" line three times.  They recommended a few ECU parameter changes that did not help and they ended up second guessing my wiring, and had me making wiring changes that made things worse.

Any guidance on my starting problem would be appreciated.

Thanks

Don

There is a good video here talking about the crank settings:

Bottom line is that most feel the default settings are too rich, and your pressing of the throttle to get it started supports that.  I'd start by reducing the prime shot (perhaps quite a bit)

Tr8driver,

Thanks for the advice.  FiTech help line had me increase the "Prime Fuel Multi" to 299, go figure.  That's when things got worse and they started changing wiring around (again).  So glad I stumbled across this forum.

I reduced the prime shot in increments of 50 or so, until I settled at -25 (engine warm, not hot)  WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT!!!.  It's not dialed in 100% but you sure pointed me in the right direction.  Next, I'll fiddle with the cranking settings.

Thanks Again

Don
