Won't stay running, data log included
Quote from Crankyolman on July 25, 2020, 12:44 pmThe short version of the story is my truck sat for the better part of 3 months while being repainted. It was started and ran every week or two during this period but never run for long. It ran fine when parked but now that it is back together it starts when cold but as soon as it gets warm it starts having issues and will only stay running at about 2000 rpm. If I let off the gas it sputters and dies and is very difficult to keep running. This morning I warmed it up and made a data log at idle. It took numerous attempts just to get it to idle, you can see the restarts in the log, I let it run for a bit then gave it a little gas and let off and it sputtered and died, which is at the end of the log. Can anybody tell me what's going on and how to fix it?
Here are the details of my engine
Stock 1972 AMC 360, TH400 transmission, Fitech 39001 (2 barrel), a Fitech 40102 fuel pump mounted in the fuel tank, (not in a fuel command center), No timing control, No fan control
Here is a link to the log

Thank you in advance for any help

Quote from Crankyolman on August 12, 2020, 8:59 pmI'm kind of saddened by the fact that this post has been here 3 weeks and nobody bothered to even try to help. I guess it's kind of pointless to bother from now on. I would like to post an update on my problem and the eventual fix that I arrived to thanks to some helpful people on another forum in case anybody else runs into similar issues.
It's kind of a long story but eventually we figured out that once warmed up, above idle and under load the fuel pressure would drop off causing a lean condition, backfiring and dying. I checked the fuel pump by wiring it through a relay instead of the ECU and there was no change in the problem. Eventually I disconnected the fuel line and checked output, which was dismal. It took 45 minutes to pump 5 gallons out. So I dropped the tank and found a small amount of debris in the fuel pickup screen but I don't feel it was enough to block it so I removed the in tank pump and installed a frame mounted pump.
Upon restarting after removing the in tank pump and installing the frame mounted pump pressure started out at 58psi then climbed to 80. Checking with Fitech they said fuel pressure should be 43.5psi on the 2 barrel but from the first day I have had this system it started off at 58psi even though it had what was supposed to be a 3 bar regulator. So I purchased a new Bosch 3 bar regulator and that fixed the fuel pressure issue.
The truck now seems to run fine, so problem solved.
