Fuel Flow Issue
Quote from 87Cabby on December 5, 2020, 11:11 pmHello all,
I've got a GoStreet 400 system (30003) installed on a SBC. System has been functioning great for over a year. Recently it's developed a cold start issue where it will start right up, run for a few seconds, and then stall. It will fire right back up and do the same thing 4 or 5 times, then it will keep running. When it stalls the inline fuel pump is still running and holding just over 40psi of pressure. I've noticed that the Fuel Flow Rate on the handheld drops to 0 right before it stalls. I've check the fuel filters and pump screen for a blockage and everything is clear. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks in advance
-Sam

However, it will be strange that all the sudden is failing after a year, unless the cool winter temperatures are having an effect. The AfterStart settings are set at three temperatures, so if low temp could be an issue you may want to increase the lower temp settings.

I've done some more troubleshooting and I think I'm having a voltage issue. Checked power on the white ignition wire and its dropping to about 9 volts during cranking. I've noticed that if I hook up the battery charger it will start-up and run every time. Wondering if my battery is dying or my alternator isn't charging fully. I've gone thru and cleaned all of the ground contact points and even added one from the engine to the frame. Currently the main battery ground goes to the engine (4 awg), the TB is grounded to that same point and the one I added goes from there to the frame. There is also a small one from the battery to the chassis and from the back of the engine to the chassis. I also changed the ignition switch thinking that might have been an issue.
I'm going to do a few more tests to see if there is something draining the battery while its setting as well. Oh the joys of old cars! More to come, Thanks again.

Quote from bdhulderman on December 9, 2020, 10:25 amYep, common problem with EFI. Doesn't matter what kind of battery you have, you will lose voltage while cranking with all the current needed to turn the starter. I've found you need to have at least 11 volts while cranking the engine over, or it won't initialize correctly, and if you happen to get it started that way, it will run like crap and foul your plugs. Stopped this problem cold on both my cars with fitech EFI.

Quote from 87Cabby on December 12, 2020, 2:10 pmSo I installed a relay for the ignition input to the unit. It now holds strong at 11 volts during cranking. But the problem persists.
After watching the controller a little closer the RPM's drop right before the fuel Flow drops while the engine is running. So it appears the tach signal is falling off. I went through and checked the connection on the distributor and even shielded the tach wire with no change. Not sure what else would cause it to drop off. The RPM also is dropping off intermittently while accelerating. Thoughts?

Quote from bdhulderman on December 12, 2020, 7:10 pmJust to check the box, I would try putting on a charger to the battery to give it a little more current just to see if that helps, if not, it's not power related to the fitech.
