Fuel Pump Problems

You can do that.  Just don't forget to turn it off or use a relay that is switched to the key.

Carry a test light.  Test the fuel pump fuse for power when priming.  You set your prime to a longer period of time.  I have mine set to 20 seconds some times.  If power in Orange wire during prime, it is not the unit.  It is something to do with the pump or ground for the pump.

not sure how to increase longer prime. I went on the menu to "Go-efi tuning", them "crank & warm up", them "prime fuel mult" and set it max of 298% but it didn'd change the time the pump ran when the key is turned on.

Change that back.  That is for the prime shot of fuel, not the pump prime.  Enable Pro Tuning menu in the display section.  In the Pro menu you will find fuel pump menu.

Thanks. I had no idea that menu existed!! I've set my prime time to 15 seconds. We'll see if that helps.

Question: Will the pump continue to prime during that 15 seconds even when cranking the engine?

Once you start cranking the pump is commanded to stay on.

Well, the hot weather continues. I haven't used the truck very much since it's not very dependable. I'm going to try to use it more to get to the bottom of the "heat soak" problem but there is another issue I need to resolve first: If I don't let the the pump prime cycle run its entire 15 seconds, the engine won't start no matter how long I crank (and I verified that I'm getting fuel pressure during the cranking process). If I turn the key off and let it run the prime cycle a second time it will usually start. If it won't start on its own I pour a little gas down the throttle body and it takes off fine. I'm wondering if with all my messing around I've changed some setting or another that isn't letting the system to give enough gas to get it started. Any thoughts??

When the pump is priming, you should hear a pulse. That is the prime shot.  If you cycle it again,it will prime shot again.  I typically don't recommend increasing the prime shot.  In fact some turn it completely off.  I recommend you increase the cranking fuel in the coolant temp range you are experiencing issues with.  All found in the cranking menu.

Yes, I can certainly hear the pump running....I don't know if I would define it as a "pulse" but it humming right along and making a good 40 psi at the throttle body. I increased the prime shot by 10% but it didn't seem to make much difference in my starting issue. Maybe a larger percentage??

Today I had another heat soak failure episode. I stopped at a store for a few minutes, did my business, and then headed out. I got maybe 200 yards and the truck slowed down and stalled. I checked the FiTech output to the fuel pump and go zero volts. I hooked a jumper from the pump directly to the battery and it started and I was able to make it home. After the truck sat for 45 minutes it started right up without issue. Very strange!!

I had a similar issue not sure what is yet but it ran on test drive for about 45 min and sputtered like it was running out of fuel and just died I cranked it back up ran like crap and died I waited about 10 min started it still wasn't running right but better made it a half a mile repeated the process after a 30 min wait and made it the last mile home still not running right I am all most ready to put edlebrock 1912 carbs on it mine has not made it 10 miles after 8 or 9 months because I had a engine cooling issue but that's now worked out and now this also while cruising it randomly miss  and related that to a fouling plug maybe but for it to just instantly run like it was only hitting on 4 cylinder's for about 15 sec and then just die I dunno getting ready to take mine off  ill play around with a bit more  I have a spare coil, ignition box, pick up coil and I have two spare fuel pumps for the hyper fuel so we will see

The 1906 is starting to look pretty tempting to me!!
