Of course it will run better with the carb.  Carbs don't care about electrical interference.

Let's be clear.  The blue wire is isolated from all other wires and is shielded with aluminum foil and shielding sleeve.

Yes.  I have separated the blue wire from the factory harness.  It is about 1.5 feet long total, and goes directly to the HEI distributor TACH terminal without any breaks or connectors other than the spade that hooks to the terminal, which is soldered to it.  It is wrapped in a continuous piece of foil with no tears, with shielding sleeve on the outside of that, and the sleeve has a ground wire on one end of it, which is grounded to a clean filed point.  Witch doctor time?  Shall I get some chicken bones to use in the ceremony?

Just remembered something.  I have heard Fitech does not recommend the Duraspark.  Apparently the tach signal is not strong enough.

Wow. I wonder if this is related to what I have. I have a Duraspark type of distributor, but I am running it through a MSD CDI type of ignition, not the Duraspark ignition. I have the Spectra Premium FD03 distributor. Do you guys know if this incompatibility is  related to the distributor or the ignition system? Since the RPM signal to the ECU comes from the CDI box and not the distributor it may be irrelevant, but I am wondering.

You should be fine.

Update on my situation.....Sent the whole throttle body system back in to Fitech.  Didn't hear anything for 2 months, which is fine as the truck runs great on the carb.  Finally figured I'd get a hold of them to check, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the system but it did run poorly until they flashed it.  I then sent them pics of my engine compartment and asked them to look it over for anything that might cause an issue.  All looks good according to them, and I've gone over it with a fine tooth comb over and over again.  We agreed for them to send me back a different system as the one I had obviously doesn't like my truck for some reason, which I received.  They want me to put it back on, but I informed them it won't be going back on the truck until April or May, as up here in Montana, if the thing dies on the side of the road in -20 degrees, it's a little different situation then just getting towed home.  It could seriously be life or death, and having something that's left me dead in the water multiple times ain't going to happen until it's warm out and I can wrench on it safely if it does let me down.  Again.  So I'm going to be installing the new system in spring time once I'm sadly out of warranty and if it dies again I'll let one of you have it for the cost of aluminum.

Your troubles really stink, but I hope this does the trick.  Please let us know in the Spring.
