Is Fitech junk?

Page 1 of 2Next

I installed the easy street system on my small block chevy. I have tried very hard to be patient with this system, I may have reached my breaking point. I seems to run ok, hasn't left me stranded on the side of the road yet. But I am not overly impressed with this purchase . I idles like a bag of S@#T really struggling to idle and air fuel ratio is all over the map, but runs pretty good cruising and under load.

I just found a fault code P0505 Iac fault, is this why i am having troubles? Any help with this would be great, next step is remove the system and smash it into pieces.

To answer the title of your post, no, its a good system. If your idle air controller (iac)  isn't working properly, then that will affect idle quality. The iac's job is to control the amount of air going through the throttle body so the ecu can maintain the idle you programmed into the hand held. Try getting in touch with Fitech support, your system may be under warranty, or there maybe a quick fix. Their call center is usually slammed with calls, so be patient. Once this is resolved, you'll love driving your car again.

thanks i will try that.

Sounds to me like your idle AFR and IAC steps are not correct.  And to answer your question, they are not junk.  I wouldn't have spent 2 years of my life building and administrating this website for FREE if Fitech was junk.

None of the aftermarket EFI systems are Magic Boxes.  Also EFI is not nearly as forgiving as Carbs.  Properly wiring and having leak free exhaust, etc. are critical.

I am not bashing Fitech, I am merely asking the question. I have owned and installed 3 different EFI systems including Fitech, none have been as frustrating as this one, and none have been as tunable either. When it came time to purchase an EFI system FiTECH was highly recommended. Like I said earlier I have been patiently waiting for it to tune itself, and to be honest it has been making steady improvements.

My target AFR is set to 14.7 and I did set the IAC to below 10 as the Fitech video instructed, that I found on youtube.  I am aware that there are many potential problems that can affect the EFI systems, and I am sure that everyone blames the EFI not the engine it is bolted to, but I have installed the system as directed. I have no vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks to speak of.

Is the "PO505 - IAC fault" a faulty IAC motor or is it an adjustment issue. The last time I adjusted the IAC steps is when I installed my stand alone trans controller, as I wanted to make sure the TPS signal was working properly. And I was under the impression that any changes to TPS also requires changes to the IAC. I have not touch the IAC since.

Could be a ground issue.

It took me a little while to get mine dialed in but it works great. I have the 1200 pa on a twin turbo sbc. It runs great on the street. It did take a few tries to get my iac right and it does change as the car warms up. This is my first efi unit and I’m happy with it. Tech support is great as well as the videos on the internet. Let me know if I can answer any questions. Good luck!

Update:

I can answer my own question because I returned my FiTech Easy street 600hp system for a full refund. Thank God. I switched to a Holley 670 Street avenger and I couldn't be happier. My truck never ran this good with the efi, not fouling plugs any more no more over fueling. Because of the FiTech efi system and lack of support I received on both the tech line and forums I struggled to get the efi running properly and never drove my summer truck all summer. Which was a very big disappointment. The lesson to be learned here is there is no such thing as a self tuning efi system, no matter what the propaganda says. Good bye FiTech we will never cross paths again.

On a side note I see the moderator of this forum deleted his account or decided to be anonymous, enough said.

I have had my fitech for a 1 1/2 years it is the 1200 power adder with the hyperfuel sys on a 545 871 blown beast, and it is my first system, I am a 30 plus year master ase tech and on 1 -10 I rate it 2 ways, first tunability and user I give it a 6, as far as drivability I give it a 8, i spent a long time getting the system dialed in, it took me 6 months to try and apply what I know from real world oem drivability and computer controlled cars and apply it to the fitech, on a blown application it is not end user friendly, unless you understand the fitech not so much regular fuel injection, they are different on the way the ecm gathers info and the base line tune, fitech has 4 basic tunes (fuel ) once you find the best cam setting (tune) you need to adjust from there if you are familiar with a general understanding of what you are adjusting 1 adjustment in one area will cause changes in others especially idle and IAC do not treat this syst like a carb it will fight you every step of the way I was ready to toss mine also, I took a step back and approached it as I explained get cam setting get idle get iac drive it then adjust drive it then adjust then drive it  yes it is a pita but once you have it idling good and normal driving is good then fine tune it mine now runs great now having a blower I half to cycle my fuel pumps 3 times to get enough fuel in the blower to fire right up and it does and it drive great I am making close to 1100 hp  and I have seen a lot of other after market fuel inj sys on other cars and after talking to a lot of these people each system has its own quirks fitechs instructions are not clear, tech support is slow, but this site is a god send a big success and the last thing I will say about the system is fitech will warranty stuff and you really HALF TO BE PATIANT when dialing it in

Hi I am a new user. I have a two barrel fitech. I have been struggling with this unit for 10 months. I have set the steps so many times that I can do it in the dark with a paper clip and a junior mint.  It runs fine than for no apparent reason runs terrible. Now it stalls and goes lean when costing to a stop or a when you let off the gas to turn. Anyone want my EFI cheap? I also have a 30003 still in the box that I was going to put on a different project but because of this first one it is still sitting on the shelf. Any help would be appreciated before this unit becomes a paper wait or door stop. I have attached the last log hopefully someone can read one of these uploads and tell me what he issue is this time.
