Problems with starting, acceleration

PreviousPage 3 of 4Next

Ok - I went through the update/setup.  Took it for a quick drive.  Had similar issue when accelerating - hoping this is more of a learning issue since it is a fresh setup.  No fault codes.  I was able to log and get the log file. I posted it here - let me know if it is visible.  I don't think I used dropbox before, or if I did it was a while ago.

The share worked.  The log looks fairly good.

IAC steps look good.  The unit is learning and functioning properly.

Your AFR Learn is maxed to the negative.  What cam setting are you on.  Please confirm on handheld.

We will get to the acceleration cranking issues.  If setup is not done in the correct order, you will be chasing the tune.  I want to see a better AFR Learn first.  This is the "Self Learning" part of the system.  If it is maxed to the negative, it is limited to how much fuel it can trim.  Usually this means the wrong cam setting has been selected.  Cam 2 would be my first choice, but cam 1 may the correct choice.

Making progress....

Definitely making progress. I double checked the cam setting and it is 2. It was a 2 before. I was debating making it 3. It’s definitely not 1 or 4. It ran decent on my trip to work.

It will not be 3.  Your vacuum and AFR Learn says borderline 1-2.

You probably need to figure it out yourself though.  Just trying to safe you some frustration.

I’ll leave it at 2. It’s more aggressive than a stock cam.

I wish you all the luck!!!

How long should I let it learn before trying to tweak things for warm startup and acceleration?

It ran decent on my way home. It sat for 30-40 minutes at home, I went to start it, and it was again difficult to start and keep running.  I logged it after 2-3 starting attempts.  I forgot to stop the logging for a bit.  Not sure if it is too soon to troubleshoot this, or if it needs to learn more.

I looked at both your logs.

Your second log has a serious issue.  Your AFR is dead lean.  Like pegged the O2 sensor lean.

Is the engine running rough?

With a super lean AFR, it could be a misfire on 1 or more cylinders.

Also, I noticed your coolant temp is below 170°.  I thought I read that the system won't learn below 170°?  What temp thermostat do you have in the engine and where is your coolant temp sensor located?

The first was a good idle. The second was a start after sitting for 30-40 minutes after being normal temp. It warms up to over 170. Usually runs around 190. The warm start problem happens after the truck is warm, sits for 30-40 minutes. It is hard to start and runs like crap for a minute or two. Hard to keep running. This problem has been going on a while. After it settles down and the afr goes back to normal it’s ok.  Coolant temp sensor is in the head.
