Secondary Adjustment

I don't know if this is the correct way, but what worked for me was to adjust the secondary so there is no play in idle. You have to go back and forth between IAC and secondary adjustments until all is good. At full throttle my secondaries are slightly behind (maybe 90%), but in real life I doubt it will make any difference.

I think this is more or less what I had to do, and to follow-up from my earlier post, it has seemed to essentially fix my lean tip-in condition from the past 3 years (!)   Basically had to take out a couple turns in the threaded rod connecting the primaries and secondaries.

In my case, freeing up the significant amount of play in the secondaries at idle made it so they are very close to the primaries at WOT (almost can't tell a difference), which they were noticeable not straight up before at WOT.

I just wanted to update for anyone who reads this, that taking play out of the sec. linkage did in fact fix my lean spike, and that it should absolutely be checked if you're having weird issues.  Until reading about it here, I don't think I saw this mentioned in any forum or even by the 5 or 6 people I talked to at FiTech (they always just stopped answering my emails).  Without getting too snarky, I am going to mention they should add this to the basic troubleshooting and maybe have some extra QA checks when they get shipped out.  Would've saved me 3 years of headaches...

A big thank you to everyone on this post.

If tech support knew it all, then I wouldn't have this wonderful website!!!!

Seriously, glad you solved the issue.  I can assure you Fitech pays attention and makes adjustments.

Thanks, this site has been very helpful to me, hopefully can return the favor as more continue to join.  It would be cool if someone from FiTech had an account here as a liaison, or at least keeps an eye out from time to time.

They do.  When they can.  You will rarely see them post here and you wouldn't know who it was.  A few of the guys are fairly active on the Facebook groups.  Our issues, concerns and recommendations are noted and they try to accommodate.

In fact they mention the site to other users.  We have a good relationship.  But, this site will always stay a private site.  Users trust the information here without concern that a corporation is controlling it.

Ah that's good to know, thanks again.

I don't want to come across as salty to a FiTech rep who may read this, as I am happy with the system now and finally enjoy driving my car.  But just frustrating that something simple to check like that was never suggested as part of the troubleshooting (not blaming any one person though).

Hopefully it gets picked up on, I still see enough people on other forums with the same general issue as me, and I try to point them to this thread, at least as a quick gut check.

I am working on an online course that will hopefully lead new users in a better direction moving forward.  My goal with this site was to gather information in one place for all to use, but now it needs to be condensed into a Fitech 101 manual.  Actually will be a video course.

so to properly setup the linkage so primarys and secondaries are in sync, is to adjust the secondary set screw to just touch the primary arm? I have a rich condition at idle and fitech says afr is good. all gaskets and 02 has been replaced. exhaust is tight. would secondarys/primaries being open to far cause a rich condition? I have a noticeable gush of air noise from the unit if that helps?

Have you adjusted your IAC steps yet?  That is probably the next step, and adjust both primaries and secondary's the same amount.

Always a good idea to balance your primary and secondaries.  But, your rich idle is most likely a rich target AFR.  Try leaning your idle AFR a full point.

rich idle, smoke test for leaks.

with regards to the threaded connecting rod, is it just poor workmanship or is there a reason for the clearance from the sloppy hole fit? are they supposed to be bushed?
