Hi all ... here a better ?

Can i use a gen 3 temp sensor ? 2000 5.7 .. its a 12mm thread .. and the upper end range it 88omes

the sensor in the kit is way to big i would have to drill and tap a bigger hole in my head .. and the supplyed sensor has a upper end range of 82omes ..

I have a 1970 dodge dart with a 225 slant six ..

Thanks

David

Unfortunately the Dodge guys have run into this problem.  I would say "no", but you could try and report back.

I have had a short conversation this week with Fitech about coolant sensors.  They are finalizing an Update that will include a new feature.  We will now have the ability to adjust the coolant temp sensitivity (overly simplified discription).  I will have the instructions and software update posted here sometime this month.  We may find this useful if a different sensor may be needed in an application.

Just in case others are having the same issue. My Fitech system coolant temp was way off right out of the box. 30 - 40 degrees lower than my Autometer mechanical gauge. Fitech sent me another sensor but it yielded the same readings. Found this post, went to Advance Auto and bought a sensor and it corrected the issue. System reads within a few degrees of the mechanical gauge now. It must be an issue with their sensors.

I left a tech Support request on the website three days ago describing the issue, before I found this post, haven't received any response yet.

Fitech is aware of the issue and working to resolve it.  Thanks for the post.

I have realized that I am suffering from this issue as well. I will read 205 in the head and 160-170 at the manifold.
Was there ever an update?

I’m going to try the 15326386 as well. I also control my fans with the Fitech and I currently have it calibrated to turn them on at 176 to correspond to 200-205 actual.

Head will always be hotter than the manifold.

Yes I agree, but it tends to be off by 40-50 degrees all the time, and I can’t imagine there is that much loss of heat through the head. I would expect it to be more like 15-20 degrees.

Should Fitech sensor be in the head or intake manifold?

Nevermind. I just read the Fitech instructions which say either location. Mine is in the aluminum head and temp gauge sender is in manifold. Fitech reads higher than the gauge.

I have the opposite setup because the manifold is more convenient for the FI sensor, and the original temp gauge sensor was already in the head.  I’m going to try one of the new sensors and if that doesn’t solve my problem, then I’m going to swap them.  I’d rather have the FI reading the head temp if the reading is that different because it controls my fans.  How much higher than your gauge does the Fitech read?

Head temp is always 10-15 degrees hotter than the the manifold.  The Fitech doesn't care as long as it is somewhat close.  The big issue with their sensor is sometimes doesn't read correctly to the actual temp of the installed area.  If the ecu doesn't see over 170, it still runs Warm up enrichment.  This makes tuning a nightmare.
