will not run after initial setup

Page 1 of 2Next

Hi

Having problems with a 30005 fitech. After initial setup I tried to start and the truck would crank would not fire or run. So I rechecked everything and then I cycled the ignition key 5 to 10 times thinking I still got air in the system and then tried to start and fired but would not stay running I have done this 4 more times with the same result. Am I missing something it almost seems like the ECU is not firing the injectors when cranking engine. Any help welcome.

A few things to check.

1. What does your handheld do when you are cranking?  Does it go black?  Does dashboard data go blank?  Does cranking RPM show?  Any injector pulse width data?

2.  Does the white wire stay 12v during crank?  If not the unit is shutting off during crank.

3.  Does it start with a little throttle input? Have you adjusted the throttle screw?

1. the handheld does not go black, there is dashboard data, crank rpm when cranking is around 200 rpm, not sure on the injector pulse width will have to check after battery charges up.

2. the white wire voltage when cranking was 11.97 volts will the unit shut off with only .03 of a volt under 12?

3. no it does not start with a little throttle input, yes I have adjusted the throttle screw one complete turn with no difference

the only way it would fire but not stay running is by cycling the ignition key and hearing the ejectors click and the pump in the G-surge tank turn on 5 to 10 times

Confirm fuel prime, confirm spark during crank....

1) Couple of things.  Make sure you have the fitech physically grounded with a wire to ground.

2) It's sounding like it's not getting enough fuel.  Check the fuel pressure at the fitech fuel inlet.

3) Take a spark plug out and look to make sure they are not fouled out or running too lean.

4) Make sure you have spark at the plugs by putting timing light on wires, this will tell you also if they are fouled, if they are not firing consistently.

Let us know the answer to these and it will help home in on the problem.

1. tried the ground to the TB

2. didn't have pressure gauge but took return line from TB off of the G-surge tank into a gas can and turned on the ign. key and the pump started but there was no gas in the can. so I put that back together and took off the high pressure pump line from the TB into the gas can and started the pump and no gas in the can. does the high pressure pump need back pressure to pump?

3. spark plugs dry and not fouled.

4. have spark at the spark plugs(checked), the truck had just run with the carb on it and have a brand new HEI distributor (not controlling spark with Fitech)

it seems like the high pressure pump is not pumping. should I pull the top cover of the G-Surge tank and check if everything tight on the pump (loose fittings etc.)?

Is there fuel in the G surge?

yes I could see it full when I had the return line off, I had primed the G-surge tank full before I took the carb off

Sounds like a pump issue.

yes, that's what I thought, will take lid off of G-Surge tank to make sure everything is hooked up (hose to fitting on the lid) and then if that's good I guess a email to Fitech for a warranty replacement.
